"The original M1 is the only mid-engined BMW has ever made."

The BMW M1 Hommage concept was unveiled at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este in Italy. The 2008 BMW M1 Hommage concept is a contemporary take on the mid-engine BMW M1 supercar from 1978 - 1981.The design of the M1 Hommage concept, like all current BMW vehicles, relies heavily on the design idiom 'flame surfacing'. This design style uses a complex arrangement of shadows and highlights to define the visible surfaces. The overall shape of the M1 Hommage concept is very similar to the original car, and retro touches are liberally sprayed all over the car. These include slatted alloy wheels, twin BMW badges at the rear above the taillights, and a louvered bonnet and rear window.Currently the BMW M1 Hommage is only intended as a styling exercise and a celebration of 30 years since the original M1. However the return of a mid-engine supercar into BMW's lineup would be a welcome addition, especially now Audi has the fabulous R8.
